In a stunning upset, Westchester County Executive George Latimer has defeated incumbent Democratic Congressman Jamaal Bowman in New York's 16th Congressional District primary election, according to CNN projections. The victory marks a major setback for the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

Latimer, a moderate Democrat, ran a campaign focused on local issues and his experience in county government. He argued that Bowman, a first-term congressman, had been too focused on national politics and had neglected his district. Bowman, on the other hand, campaigned on his progressive agenda and his support for Medicare for All and the Green New Deal.
